Orange Pumpkins Under White Sky at Daytime

Picture a crisp fall day with the vibrant colors of changing foliage all around you. As you search for the perfect pumpkin, you feel the crunch of leaves under your feet, smell the scent of fresh hay, and hear the laughter of families enjoying the harvest season.

Without a doubt, there’s something satisfying about picking a pumpkin yourself right from the farm where it’s grown. It’s a sense of tradition and simplicity that’s hard to beat! If you’re looking for a place where this fall experience comes to life, Lawndale Farm is the place to be.

About Lawndale Farm

Lawndale Farm has been a family-owned treasure for generations. Our story began in 1921 with Kenneth Times Sr. and his mother, Dorothy. Ninety years and five generations later, the Times Family still proudly owns and operates the farm.

Originally a dairy farm with around 50 cows and only five acres of vegetables, Lawndale Farm has since grown into a thriving agricultural haven with over 30 acres of fresh vegetables, honey from our own beehives, and even a friendly cow named Sloppy. In addition to produce, we cultivate 25 acres of high-quality hay and straw.

Lawndale Farm is committed to sustainable farming practices that protect the environment and preserve open spaces for the community.

Lawndale Farm Pumpkin Season

At Lawndale Farm, the fall season comes to life with different engaging activities that promise fun for the whole family. The highlight is the opportunity to pick your own tomatoes and pumpkins directly from the fields, giving a hands-on experience that celebrates the beauty of fresh produce. Children and adults alike delight in exploring the pumpkin patch and selecting a pumpkin to take home.

Adding to the festive atmosphere are our scenic hayrides, which involve a relaxing journey through our picturesque farm landscape. You are welcome to soak in the rustic charm and stunning fall colors! The cornfield treasure hunt is also a favorite for adventurers of all ages. We supply you with clues to ignite your passion for discovery before you embark on a whimsical quest that winds through the towering stalks.

The Lawndale Farm pumpkin season isn’t just about fun and games. It’s also a chance to learn about the importance of sustainable farming and support local agriculture. Let us teach you about our farming practices and highlight the benefits of buying locally-grown produce!

Tips on Picking the Perfect Pumpkin

If you haven’t tried picking a pumpkin before or simply want to improve your technique, here are some tips to ensure you bring home the perfect pumpkin from Lawndale Farm:

  • Inspect for Firmness: Choose pumpkins that feel solid and heavy for their size because a firm pumpkin indicates it’s fresh and full of moisture.

  • Examine the Stem: A sturdy, green stem is a good sign. Avoid pumpkins with brittle or dry stems, as this can suggest they may not last as long.

  • Check the Color: Look for a pumpkin with a vibrant, deep orange color. This hue means it’s ripe and ready for harvesting.

  • Consider the Health of the Skin: Look for a pumpkin with a consistent skin texture, so leave those with cracks, splits, or moldy spots that can mean disease or damage.

  • Avoid Soft Spots and Bruises: Feel the pumpkin’s surface for any soft spots or bruising. These areas tend to rot faster and can shorten the pumpkin’s lifespan.

  • Know Your Shape and Size Preferences: Decide on the shape and size that suits your pumpkin’s purpose, whether carving a Jack-o’-lantern or using it for decoration. Generally, round or oval pumpkins are easier to carve and have more seeds.

For adults accompanying children, we encourage painting or decorating pumpkins instead of carving for a safer and more creative experience. Moreover, don’t forget to grab a wagon! You can haul your pumpkin from the field much easier with a handy wagon.
